Class Descriptions

Jr. Coding 101

During this camp, our Youngest Engineers will be introduced to the basic concept of coding. This class is a mixture of fun and learning using a robot and computer to create, design and code their way through an array of mazes and endless engineering learning experiences. Students will also color code commands with special markers, program their bots and see it in action. Join us, in this fun and learning adventure of coding.

Apprentice Environmental Engineering

During the Environmental Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine basic solutions related to alternative energy and environmental issues. They learn principles behind crafting efficient wind-powered machines and discover how those machines can be used to help reduce the use of fossil fuels. During the culminating project, students test different materials to discover which ones most effectively clean up after an oil spill.

Mechanical Engineering

During the Mechanical Engineering unit, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and improve a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of energy, traction, aerodynamics, and durability while constructing roller coasters, eggstreme defense vehicles, and an incredibly fast air-powered custom dragster

Aerospace Engineering

The Junior Aerospace Engineering classes introduces our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and more.

Aerospace Engineering: Up, Up, and Away

During the Aerospace Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. They construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two marshmallow astronauts in a lunar vehicle, create their own air-powered rockets, and assemble a hot air balloon model that actually takes flight!

Robotics

The Robotics 101 class, students will learn the basics of designing, programming, and controlling a fully functional robot. Using LEGO® EV3®, mathematical concepts, and engineering principles students will brainstorm, plan, test, and modify sequences of instructions to accomplish a given task. Students will also learn the sequence of communication between the robot, and the programmer by collecting and analyzing data using the robot’s sensors.

Jr. Robotics Engineering

This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots and bricks, students build a dancing bird, a smart spinner, and a drumming monkey. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

Jr. Civil Engineering

These classes introduces our youngest Engineers to a six weeks of fun, creativity, and of course — engineering! Building a house to withstand the Big, Bad Wolf is where the fun begins in Junior Civil Engineering. This class is centered on exploring the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration and design. Students explore the engineering behind sky scrapers, bridges, roads, and more in this fun and engaging experience

During the Industrial Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine efficient systems for production. Students explore the properties of simple and complex machines with K’NEX construction toys. They discover the advantages of using an assembly line to produce goods, such as ice cream. In addition, students design and create blades for their own windmill as they continue to investigate efficient systems.

3D Printing

3D printers are one of the most widely applicable and fun inventions on the tech scene today! In 3D Printing: Superheroes To The Rescue, and Minecraft Creations we will explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer-aided design, or CAD, to design and create our very own 3D printed superhero /Minecraft characters/tools! Students will take their hand drawn design and learn how to extrude it into a 3D model that can then be modified to be printed in 3D.

AMERICAN GIRL DOLL STEM WORKSHOP

During this Girl STEM Workshop students will embark on a few engineering disciplines to help explore their curiosity expand their minds and develop useful problem-solving skills, social skills, team work among others in a fun and hands on environment. Using the Engineering Design process students will have the opportunity to undertake lessons in Aerospace Engineering (straw rocket, hot air balloon), 3D printing (make 3D jewelry for their dolls), learn about coding, create amazing codes and more. Join in the fun!
